Horchata is a traditional Mexican drink made with soaked dry rice along with cinnamon and sugar (in our case we will use our favorite sweetener) Some people also use milk for that extra creamy texture but you can use only water for a more refreshing cleaner watery taste.

And what better than to make this delicious drink and add a little twist by adding our favorite coffee?

Now the best part of it is that you can use instant coffee in this recipe and it will not disappoint. However, you are welcome to use any coffee you want that’s the beauty of recipes right? there is always a little room for creativity :)

Can you mix horchata with coffee?

Short answer: of course you can! The beauty of the horchata is that once made it offers that milky sweet vanilla base that it goes perfectly with any kind of coffee you like. You can use instant coffee in the form of instant espresso, regular isntant coffee or in our case for this specific recipe we use instat coffee that dissolves well on cold beverages. Also if you have a facy expresso machine even better to use it for this recipe, you can add ice for cooling at the end.

Ingredients for a Healthy Sugar-Free Horchata Coffee

For ingredients you will need:

  • 1/3 cup of white dry rice

  • 1 cup of hot/warm water

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 cup of milk (I used unsweetened soy milk)

  • 2gr of Nescafé Ice Roast in 60ml of cold water

  • Sweetener to taste (I used Splenda)

  • small splash of sugar free vanilla syrup (optional)

To make your horchata base:

Add the white dry rice, cinnamon stick and hot/warm water and put it in the fridge overnight, in that way all the rice and cinnamon flavor will have time to soak on each other giving you the wonderful horchata flavor, trust me is worth the wait!
