healthy hot chocolate coffee recipe

Who doesn’t love winter holidays?? I can almost hear the bells ringing! With all the delicious comfort food and drinks available it has never become this easy to side track your health goals. Don’t get me wrong of course we all enjoy our best holiday family recipes to enjoy with friends and family but we can also add a little bit of balance right? So here is a decadent hot chocolate coffee with no added sugar for your health goals, let’s get started! With this delicious recipe you will not want to wait until the winter to have it, if your like me were I like to have a little bit of Christmas spirit sprinkle throughout the year, then this recipe is for you :) Let’s get started!

INGREDIENTS:

The cool part about this ingredients are two things. The first part is that there are no special holiday edition ingredients included for this particular recipe. You can find them all year round and the best part and second most important there are only four ingredients to this recipe.

  1. Oat milk 240 ml: because of its natural thicker texture of oat milk for this recipe it will be our milk of choice, and it compliments really well with the chocolate coffee flavors. Of course you can use any milk of your liking the recommendation is completely optional but since I always try to share plant based recipes for my lactose intolerant readers out there, I had to point out that oat milk is the best one to go for when it comes to your thick velvety hot chocolate.

  2. French roast instant coffee 1 tsp: French roast variety has a really nice aromatic notes that you just want to drink by just smelling it, so this was perfect for our hot chocolate coffee it will make it not only enhance the flavor of our chocolate but also smell delicious!

  3. Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder 2 tsp: In my opinion this is the best top tier chocolate powder available and I mean is there anything better than Hershey’s? Feel free to add more if you like your chocolate flavor a little stronger :) The fine powder presentation is perfect for the blending for hot beverages and also with its finely tunned concentrated chocolate flavor a little goes a long way. Plus if you are really feeling fancy or just want to decorate your drink you can sprinkle a tiny amount at the top of your hot chocolate. Not only it will look pretty and totally instagrammable but for the first sip the extra chocolate powder its just magic, highly recommend!

  4. Zero calorie sweetener: you can use any sweetener that you have available, for this recipe I used the liquid stevia by the Splenda brand and it was just what I was looking for. Again a little goes a long way so personally recommend to start with only a quick squeeze and gradually work your way up to the sweetness level of your personal liking.

  5. Cinnamon (optional): If you have a sweet spot for cinnamon like I do, you can add this as a last step to your frothed milk layer on your cup and you can also with the help of stencils get extra creative or festive and have fun with your cinnamon decor :) This can add a little fun creative experience to your drink while also smelling that comforting holiday memories that only cinnamon notes can bring.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Pour your cup of oat milk on a sauce pan on low heat while slowly stirring.

  2. Right when you see a little steam coming out turn off the heat to place the rest of the ingredients.

  3. Put your cocoa powder, instant coffee and your zero calorie sweetener and stir slowly until everything is incorporated

  4. Once everything is mixed together wait for it to cool down enough to serve :) don’t forget to wear health gloves!

  5. In your Christmas cup of choice serve your hot chocolate coffee and then proceed to fluffy it up with the help of your hand frother, this will naturally create the thick velvety texture we love on our hot chocolate and it will also make the extra puffy layer at the top in which you can sprinkle your cinnamon :)

I hope you enjoy this recipe by your Christmas tree and may every sip bring your joy and comfort :) until next time!

Kindly,

Tayde
